Hey! I hope your reading is going well. Today, I'm going to be sharing my thoughts about one of my favourite series ever - Slammed by Colleen Hoover.

Falling in love can feel like poetry.

Or it can feel like a slam to the heart.

Colleen Hoover's romantic, emotion-packed bestselling debut novel unforgettably captures all the magic and confusion of first love, as two young people forge an unlikely bond before discovering that fate has other plans for them.

Following the unexpected death of her father, eighteen-year-old Layken becomes the rock for both her mother and her younger brother. She appears resilient and tenacious, but inside, she's losing hope. Then she meets her new neighbour Will, a handsome twenty-one-year-old whose mere presence leaves her flustered, and whose passion for poetry slams thrills her.

Not long after a heart-stopping first date during which each recognizes something profound and familiar in the other, they are slammed to the core when a shocking discovery brings their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together and the forces that tear them apart. Only through the poetry they share are they able to speak the truth that is in their hearts and imagine a future where love is cause for celebration, not regret.

I love this book so much, because when it started off really well, I just knew that something bad was going to happen to their relationship, but I didn't realise how much they couldn't be together! I love how all the parts with Will start with "That's not a good idea," because whenever he sees Layken she's always doing something wrong, but he still loves her anyway and will help her.

When I first got this book, I had never heard of slam poetry, and didn't know that it was going to be such an important topic in this book.

For those who don't know, slam poetry is a form of spoken poetry, which is performed live at an event called a slam and is critqued by judges that have been chosen from the audience.

In the book, Will and Layken attend many slams together, and even perform. I loved reading the poems and hearing more from Will's point of view through his performances.

Also, I just have to mention the covers. I got the whole series from the library and it took me a while to realise that if you line them up, they become a butterfly, which is referenced in the story.

I have given it a 5 star review on my Goodreads account, which I don't do very often, so I highly recommend this book, and the rest of the series to everyone.

Let me know what your most recent 5 star book is in the comments!
